鼓浪聲融古卷黄
莘莘鱗羽接滄浪
銀鷗漫逐潮千轉
卻讓斜暉入至莊

                                                         A visit to Xiamen University

                                    The drumming tides blend with time-worn scrolls' hue, 

                                    While feathered throngs dance with the boundless blue. 

                                    Silver gulls chase the whirls of endless flow— 

                                    At dusk, my soul yields to Amoy's glow. 

Notes:   (1) 莘莘鱗羽指眾多海鳥，暗示眾多學子。 鱗羽(lit. "scales-feathers") refers to seabirds while feathered throngs evokes students' collective energy.   (2) 《楚辭》「滄浪之水」, ，「浪」異讀「long⁴」以保留平聲韻律 (3) 燕𠥹是季候鳥，常來廈門作客 Gull (Sterninae) is a migratory bird, often found in Xiamen.
